    Paul,

Just read your article on Order 36765. I was wondering if you work with/recommend order fulfillment software/application companies.

Please drop me a line regarding that if you do, and if you have the time and wouldn’t mind.

    Thanks is advance.

    Hi, Mike,

There’s no one size fits all when it comes to order management. Small businesses can easily get by with OSS systems and avoid paying through the nose.

Larger businesses need more robust order-tracking software. However, which pack to buy depends on where the order is placed POP, POS, on-line, through an affiliate, through eBay, Amazon or Yahoo Stores – all of these factors play a role in deciding what’s right for a new business.

    Recommendations:

MySQL d-base is OSS and can be adapted to track orders, print invoices, etc. A little cumbersome but you can’t beat the price.

I also like All-Pro Small Business. I think the latest version is 7.0. Any way, it won’t bust the bank (less than $100 as I recall) and its mod format synchs up with server side security without a lot of hassles.

Also, most shopping cart programs track orders. If you’re looking for OSS I like osCommerce because it has a really active support community and upgrades are the norm.

For more complex order tracking, look at Miva Merchant (don’t remember the latest release number, but it’s easy to find). Very flexible and easy to configure.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for stopping by.
